IGCSE & A Levels

Greenwich College is a registered Cambridge University Examination Centre and offers tuition for the British IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education), AS Levels and GCE Advanced Level examinations. The examining body is Cambridge International Examinations.

The validity and acceptability of these qualifications is recognized both locally and internationally.

What are IGCSE, Advanced Subsidiary (AS) & Advanced (A) Levels?
These are the British High School leaving qualifications.
IGCSE is the 10th and 11th year of schooling and is equated by the Matriculation Board as the equivalent of Grade 11 (NQF3) and may also be used for entry into South African Universities via an Access Programme. This privilege is not possible with a nor malGrade 11.

AS Levels are the 12th year of schooling and are recognised by the South African Matriculation Board as the equivalent of Senior Certificate subjects (NQF4) passed at the Higher Grade, which is a necessary requirement for University Entrance (Matric with Endorsement).

A Levels are the 13th year of schooling and are generally only necessary if you are applying to go to certain universities in the UK.

These qualifications are recognised locally by the South African Matriculation Board for entrance into South African Universities as well as by SAQA (South African Qualifications Authority)

The Cambridge System differs from the South African system in that students are not required to pass all their subjects in one sitting in order to pass a Grade. Any subject passed is logged at Cambridge as a credit and students are free then to concentrate on other subjects. Should they wish to improve on their pass mark, the subject may be written again.
